Mission/Vision

West Cork Music was established in 1995 and has grown from a small voluntary organisation to a company which is dedicated to bringing the highest calibre of musical experience to Ireland.

Project History

West Cork Music promotes the West Cork Chamber Music Festival which has become one of the leading chamber music events in Europe. It also organises the West Cork Literary Festival, Masters of Tradition and a year-round concert series. Its activities also range from music education schemes with school children throughout County Cork to commissioning new works from Ireland’s leading composers.

Project & ACE

The West Cork Chamber Music Festival programme features a young musicians’ series. This centers around three daily masterclasses for three selected ensembles. Each ensemble gets a daily class mostly from Festival musicians but also from a specialist tutor. As well they each get two performance opportunities, one in a school hall and one on one of the Festival main stages. The school hall also plays host to concerts by other young ensembles. The masterclass series also includes a workshop with the composer-in-residence, analysing and discussing with composers and performers three new works, the winners of the Festival’s Composition Competition for young composers.
